The One Young World Bath Caucus, a remarkable collaboration between One Young World (OYW) and the University of Bath in support of the 1.8 Billion Young People for Change Campaign, ignited passion and enthusiasm as it unfolded on 18 March 2023 at the University of Bath in the United Kingdom. This one-day event brought together 100 change-makers, including 80 dynamic adolescents and youth between the ages of 10 and 24, to immerse themselves in invigorating discussions and take concrete actions towards achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). With a vibrant focus on Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11), Quality Education (SDG 4), and Good Health and Wellbeing (SDG 3), the Caucus empowered participants to make a tangible impact on the world.
Julian Chaudhuri, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, and Kate Robertson, the Co-Founder of One Young World, delivered their inspiring welcome remarks. The stage was then set by Michelle Hee and Madeline Senior, passionate members of the OYW Bath 2023 Student Committee, who ignited the participants' enthusiasm for the day's transformative agenda.
Throughout the event, the delegates dived headfirst into a dynamic array of workshops, discussions, and vibrant networking sessions, all centered around the influential SDGs. The Caucus provided an unparalleled platform for these young champions of change to explore the interconnectedness of the SDGs and their profound impact on Adolescent Well-Being. Through immersive parallel breakout sessions, participants delved deep into the realms of Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11), Quality Education (SDG 4), and Good Health and Wellbeing (SDG 3). The breakout session on Good Health and Wellbeing (SDG 3), focused on the ongoing 1.8 Billion Young People for Change campaign supported by PMNCH. They explored avenues for adolescents and youth to engage, such as the What Young People Want chatbot survey.
The resounding success of the One Young World Bath Caucus radiated energy, infusing the participants with enthusiasm and motivation to create tangible impacts in their communities. The discussions and presentations supported adolescents and youth leaders, propelling them to become steadfast advocates for positive change, ensuring the well-being of their fellow adolescents and paving the way for a brighter and more inclusive future.
The One Young World Bath Caucus was a brilliant illustration of the extraordinary power that develops when collaboration and youth-led initiatives come together. The event not only inspired participants but also provided them with the practical tools and knowledge they needed to make a significant difference in their communities by devoting their undivided attention to the transformative SDGs.
